| Most people think
buying a home is about one step. It is in fact, only once you've considered
the prior five steps.
For some, selecting a neighbourhood is a moot
point They simply want a larger home in their existing
neighbourhood, or as empty nesters want to downsize to a new
condo building in their existing area.
For others, they know the property they
want; now if they could only decide on the neighbourhood.
Sometimes the two neighbourhoods are 30 miles apart. One
offers an
urban lifestyle without excessive commuting, the other a suburban
lifestyle that requires much commuting or a change in work address.
When considering neighbourhoods, make a list
of what you cannot do without and what you certainly do not
want under any condition. The quality of schools, and the list
of local amenities may further simplify the choice.
For some, the right house is secondary to a
preferred neighbourhood, which knowingly preserves ones
investment in a property, or which is near the lake or the
cultural amenities of a city.
While the home may be bigger, newer and with
a larger lot in the suburbs, younger couples working in the
city might find life easier and less of a burden by buying in the
city and selling one or both cars.
